The desperation for control in a rapidly changing, yet monotonous, world
Inspiration is gone. Ideas aren’t flowing. A vicious cycle of indecision. Inability to move forward. No motivation to strive.
Endless local, national and global issues. Big political, social and environmental events changing the very way we do life. These are big issues, not just isolated events impacting a comparative few.
Completely contradictory to this, is the monotony of day after day of the same. Yet another day of big world news. Another celebrity death. Another conflict. Another appeal. Another challenge of social constructs. Another day of school being closed. Another day of empty supermarket shelves. Another day of wearing masks, which not too long ago, wasn’t another normal day at all.
It’s no wonder inspiration is gone. Poof. Kaput. Lost in another time.
Job change is at an all-time high. We’re looking for inspiration. We want more. We want purpose. We’re looking for something fresh in a time of copious ‘hard’. The Great Resignation is seeing up to 40% of employees changing roles.
But where does this leave us? Does changing job spark inspiration? Is it a strike of inspiration and the search for more, or rather restlessness, that is prompting so many of us to change our job, career, location or lifestyle?
Maybe it’s the desperate need to take control of one aspect of our lives that we actually do have control over, when so many external factors are completely out of control.
We can’t control a flood, but we can relocate. We can’t control a pandemic, but we can choose a new career path. We can’t control international conflict, but we can launch a new side hustle. We can’t influence an unpredictable economic climate, but we can buy a caravan. Or a puppy.
Small acts of control, in a tidal wave of out of control.
